Zimbra + z-push

I searched and searched, found a lot of 'easy to use and implement' howto documents and posts, but none of them seem to get me onto a working installation and collaboration of Zimbra and z-push.

Is there anybody who can, once and for all, explain me:
- what exactly I need and which version to use and which to avoid
- how the settings should be and why
- how the setup can be tested before rolling out to phones/pda's
- how the phone side should be configured (both on WM6.x and Android)

I've been struggling with it for days now, and I'm walking in circles... always looking at the same issues over and over again, fixing one, being stuck on another again.

Thanks in advance! I guess a lot of people might benefit from a simple to understand, and tested, working, mini-howto with some explanations
