    Default imapsync or ZCSExchangeMigrationWizard

Ok, so looking through the wiki and forum and see both being used. Looking at the documentation there is no mention of a preferred tool.

We are a small municipality with less than 200 email accounts, some with years of emails, all in Exchange 2010 (which is is killing us and stealing our souls). Looking at the planning of the migration I have to ask, why imapsync and the migration wizard? Is there a different purpose for each?

We need to plan our migration to be quick and as painless as possible, we do not have the people or resources to stage this out. Everyone loses email for a weekend is fine, if we are completely done by Monday morning.

    Which should we use?

There wouldn't be any recommendation, the Outlook migration tool is a Zimbra supplied product and IMAPSYNC is a third party tool that some (many?) people have used with success. I'd suggest you try both products on large mailboxes and see which works the best and which you're comfortable with - they both do exactly what it says on the tin.

Appreciate that. We discovered that imapsync is not free and does not move anything but mail. We need to move filters, calendars, etc. The Zimbra migrate tool does that and so far has worked well.

    Thanks,

That's true about it being only mail but I believe there is (still?) a free version available.

Glad that's working for you, good luck with the migration.

imapsync can do public folders. Just create an exchange account and subscribe it to all the public folders. imapsync will sync all inbox and all public folders the person has access to. Migrate all the public folders to the equivalent mailbox on zimbra, then change the user account on zimbra to a resource folder and share it.

Imap sync wont give you duplicates, is a bit slower but better on slower wan connections. Also dont use imapsync if you only have windows servers as the windows version of imapsync kept throwing errors.
