Default Godaddy hosted email migration to Zimbra Open Source

I have a project for a small business that's interested in moving their hosted email from Godaddy to a internal network server running Zimbra. I plan on securing a public IP from their ISP to be used as the A/MX record assignment under Godaddy's DNS zone editor, but I'm unsure what will happen once the switch is made with how Zimbra will be able to map user accounts from the existing Godaddy accounts. I'm looking for anyone that might have advice/experience with migrating a Godaddy hosted account to a standalone Zimbra host, or help point me to documentation that guides through this process. Any help would be fantastic. Thanks!

We done similar type of migration..

First let me know how many user mailboxes are hosted on godaddy?

If it's less let's cofigure it on outlook and convert it to pst.. then restore the respective pst file on zimbra using pst migration wizard. .

Note: Do not change or modify mx record on DNS before backup

If you change you will not able to login into godaddy mail accounts..

There should be well under 10 mail boxes hosted. I assume the conversion can all be taken place on the user's client machine, right? Since the business has been married too godaddy for a few years now with hosted email, I'm not rushing in anyway with moving them over to a hosted Zimbra solution. I'm a bit miffed on how to go around with step by step due to how Zimbra needs solid DNS settings before being installed. I'm thinking that there will be a need to install Zimbra using split dns, configure the user mail boxes, and then eventually change the DNS records on Godaddy to point to the Zimbra server. Migrating email is still difficult after all these years.

What you should do is add secondary DNS records (at a lower priority) that point to your new Zimbra server, when the migration is complete then you remove the ones that point to godaddy server - no loss of email, no problems receiving email, no DNS problems.

It's not really, it just takes a bit of effort and planning.
