Thumbs up LDAP users migration to Zimbra LDAP Server

    Hi everybody.

I work with OpenLDAP and I have a lot of schemas configured into it like FreeRadius, Samba, Pykota and so on... and I also use this base to authenticate my e-mail accounts with dovecot.

Now that Iīm planning to migrate into the Zimbra world, I donīt want to work with separate LDAP information. Which is the best way to incorporate this information? Migrate users and schemas to the Zimbra OpenLdap Server or authenticate Zimbra in my current OpenLdapServer? New accounts created in the Zimbra console will be correctly created in my external LDAP Base?

If the best solution is to migrate this accounts into Zimbra LDAP, how is the best and secure way to do that? If I migrate to Zimbra, I want to remove my current LDAP server from the network.

I hope you can help me.

    thanks!
    Andre

    Hello Andre,

    Welcome to Zimbra.

    Please note:
Zimbra cannot store its directory in an external OpenLDAP server.
It can query user data (name, password, contact information), but it will not auto-provision new users if you add them to the external LDAP server.

Please check the following wiki articles for the answer of your questions

Hope this helps.A little google search will not hurt you though.

    Hi Bill.
    Thanks for the answer.

Iīm trying Zimbra 8.0.2. Is this resource already available? Can you give more info? Will Zimbra allow auto-privision in external LDAP servers?

Based on my descriptions, how can I solve my problem and keep my environment with centralized information?

    Thanks.
    Andre

An External Authentication is just that, external. You need to provision the users in ZCS, you can use the account migration wizard (in the Admin UI) or dump a list of users and then use zmprov in a script to provision the users - see the Admin help/documentation for further details..
    Regards
