Default Migrating (ZCS NE 6.01 Ubuntu 6.06 32 bits) to (ZCS NE 6.01 Ubuntu 8.04 amd64)

Hi,

Is there some information about the subject?
The WIKI is not applicable for the version 6 of Zimbra...
I have to migrate one server this week.
The problem occur for the migration of ldap. It's blocking for the export/import of ldap since the ldap structure have change in the 6.01 version.

Is it possible to copy /opt/zimbra from the 32 bits 6.06 Ubuntu server to the 64 bits 8.04 Ubuntu Server and launch a Zimbra installation migration after? The Zimbra version is the same on both.

Please help.

AFAIK you can not just "move" the data from one server to the other (one being 32 bits and the other 64 bits) because the LDAP data format is not the same between 32 ans 64 bit.

So you can either:
. migrate to Ubuntu 8.04 LTS 32 bits (and not 64 bits)
. find the correct way to export/import the LDAP data (as you say the current way that is in the wiki doesn't work)
. open a case by support as you're an NE customer

What are the exact error messages (and/or issues) you're running into while trying to export (and/or import) LDAP data in 6.0.1?

Ugly but quick workaround:

Write a script that will export all mailboxes to files.
Take a list of all users
Use a bulk provision on the new server to build all the new accounts.
Import the tgz files back into the respecive account.

This would move the mailboxes, but everything else would need to be done by hand. Like I said, it's ugly!

Have a look at the new zimbra-to-zimbra migrate function, it's not finalised yet but it's worth a try

I used it between two 5.0.18 servers and it went OK.

However, I don't think if it migrates shares/rights between the servers.

Hi,

I will open a ticket to Zimbra support.

But, I don't undestand why there is no way to do that with a WIKI well documented.

This is a new version tested and validated...
We are using the recommended OS...

We have to upgrade the hardware regularily and must installed new OS to perform that since the old version of OS don't have the new drivers.
When we upgrade the hardware it's better to be in 64 bits OS for the futures needs of memory and processes.

If I understand, my only "quick" way, is to install a 32bits Ubuntu 8.04 on the new server then copy the /opt/zimbra folder from the old server (6.06)?
Is this OK to retrieve LDAP? (The servers are in the same Zimbra version 6.01).

No time and knowledge to develop a script.
I will take a look to zimbra to zimbra migrate function but if it's not a reliable way...no time to loose.

Note:
I have only 4 days to realize this at the end of week...
Are you sure that the Zimbra support will do that in this short period?

Regards.
