Default Tips for migrating

We run a Zimbra 4.5.6 NE on RHEL4 with about 100 users and now we really need to migrate this to 5.0.x.

We are looking at Ubuntu 8.04 LTS + Zimbra 5.0.x (since we use debian on other services).

Any tips to how this should be done? Should we firstly upgrade the 4.5.6 to the newest 4.5.x and then run a backup and then restore on a freshly installed 5.0.x?

I would upgrade your current system to the latest release of ZCS (5.0.10) once a backup has been taken, and then install the new server with Ubuntu and the correct version of 5.0.10 for that platform. You can then follow Moving ZCS to Another Server » Zimbra :: Blog

So would you go from 4.5.6 straight to 5.0.x or would you upgrade to the latest 4.5.x and then go 5.0.x ?

If it is a single server installation then you can go straight to 5.0.10. If a multi-server install it is advised to go to 4.5.11 first. *REMEMBER* your back though
