I'm not sure exactly, I never examined in detail any of my failed imports - I just tried different methods (Thunderbird, MBOX import, and IMAP). I've had one or two accounts where the Trash and/or Sent folders were empty after import; and one account where 2 and a half months worth of messages weren't imported at all (2005-January this year were fine).
