Running Zimbra alongside Exchange

We have a small engineering group that is running mostly Linux PC's and we would like to have a full featured groupware solution for these engineers so that they don't have to use two different OS's (which is what currently happens).

Unfortunately, we are a small part of the enterprise so replacing Exchange is not an option. What considerations should be taken in running a Zimbra server in parallel with Exchange to keep both systems in sync.
