We are on 4.5.x in production and trying RC2 in a dev environment.

We would like to import some/all data from our ZCS 4.5.x production environment.

The backup formats seem to have changed. Is there a trick to importing 4.5.x data into RC2?

Use the method in this blog article to create a copy of your production box on a devel box, then upgrade the devel box to 5RC2. (Make sure the devel machine is sandboxed somehow.) /blog/archives/2007/10/moving_zcs_to_another_server.html

Schema changes prevent your 4.5 backups from working on a 5.0 setup.
Some RFE's on this include: Bug 14002 - Add conversion tool to upgrade backup versions to allow restore on later zcs versions & Bug 15750 - support for restore across major versions

I saw that. I would prefer to avoid migrating then upgrading if possible. Our plan is to do do a clean install of ZCS 5 for our production environment.

Is there likely to eventuallly be a way to import 4.5.x backups into 5?

I suppose we could do the upgrade on a stand-alone server and then move the backups into our dev environment. It's round-about but it would work.
