I tried to access IMAP from my gmail account and it starts to work (some of my labels are imported as folders), but then I get the error "system failure: parse error in STATUS"

I presume you mean you're trying to get your mail from gmail using IMAP? Have you actually enabled IMAP on your gmail account? Can you connect to the gmail account using another IMAP client such as Thunderbird?

Bill
Actually the RC1 Webmail client doesn't connect to my IMAP server either.
I use Mercury/32 by David Harris.
Mercury Mail Transport System Overview
'system failure: A4 NO Cannot use the STATUS command on non-SELECTable items.'
What I get is my first two folders displayed in the left pane and this error box.
I clicked the Send Error Report button.
I don't actually find this as a shock because IMAP implementations have some degree of variation that often results in incompatibilites.
I'm somewhat perplexed by both of your comments. Are you trying to retrieve your mail using the feature that downloads mail from an external account or are you trying to use the Web UI to get your mail from gmail? The web ui only works with a Zimbra server, it does not connect to any other mail server. Please explain to me exactly what you are trying to do.

Bill
Yes, I am trying to access gmail using the ExternalAccount feature.
I personally just forward, but I think I see what your saying:
Fill in the below with your info > hit test settings > get back 'success' > then save
(tried with & without @gmail.com on the username but it will display invalid credentials if it's totally wrong anyway)
Some (not all) of the 'folder structure' shows up in the mail app, but if I click 'get external mail' the result is:
Account __ Failed
system failure: parse error in STATUS
{"Body":{"ImportDataResponse":{"_jsns":"urn:zimbra Mail"}},"Header":{"context":{"sessionId":[{"id":"removed
","_content":"removed
"}],"change":{"token":removed},"_jsns":"urn:zimbra"}} ,"_jsns":"urn:zimbraSoap"}
{"Body":{"GetImportStatusResponse":{"imap":[{"id":"removed","error":"system failure: parse error in STATUS","isRunning":false,"success":false},{"id":" removed
","error":"system failure: parse error in STATUS","isRunning":false,"success":false}],"_jsns":"urn:zimbraMail"}},"Header":{"context":{" sessionId":[{"id":"removed","_content":"removed"}],"change":{"token":removed},"_jsns":"urn:zimbra"}} ,"_jsns":"urn:zimbraSoap"}

Believe it or not, it's a Gmail bug. Gmail returns folder names with spaces in them, but they don't bother to quote those folder names. We use JavaMail as our IMAP client for external account access. JavaMail's a stickler for proper protocol, and it barfs on errors like the one Gmail's making.
We've tweaked JavaMail to work around this Gmail bug. You'll see that fix in our next release. But hopefully Gmail will also fix their bug!
