Default MIGRATION FROM 3.1.4 to 4.5.6

I would like to migrate from Release 3.1.4_GA_518.FC3_20060626143230 FC3 FOSS edition on an older fc3 server to
Release 4.5.6_GA_1044.RHEL4_20070706161941 CentOS5{i} NETWORK edition
on the new server running redhat enterprise 5 (CENTOS)

I have read a bunch of forums here and even a reply to a post from me that states i should stop zimbra on the old server backup the /opt/zimbra dir and copy it to the new server. Then install the old version (Release 3.1.4_GA_518.FC3_20060626143230 FC3 FOSS edition) to the new server overtop of the copied /opt/zimbra. Then upgrade to the latest version for redhat 5.

Will this work correctly considering different os version are being used? is the 3 to 4 upgrade successfully?

There's a thread in the forums about upgrading from an older version to current releases, offhand I think the recommendation was to go to version 4.0.x then upgrade again to the current release. Do a search for that info. One thing I have to point out (again) is that CentOS is not an operating system that is supported for the Network Edition of Zimbra it should be RHEL4 or RHEL5.

I would perform the upgrades on your current server (with a backup before each upgrade) and make sure they work, when you're happy then consider moving to the new hardware.

Sorry, I didn't even see you'd mentioned fedora. You'll have a slightly more tortuous route with FC.

With the need to change operating systems and upgrade to a current release the simplest thing would be to (install new new server & Zimbra) use imapsync to transfer the mail, export the contacts as .csv file and calendar information via rest then import them into the new server. There is also a wiki article on Migrating from OSS to NE which should give you some food for thought.

There's a script in the forums that should help with filter migrations, it's in this thread. You should be able to dump a list of users and re-create them on the new server using zmprov.

I'm afraid what you'll have to do is mostly manual, you have two problems a) the old version of Zimbra and b) the new operating system - but I'm sure you know that already.

Hello again all the migration is not going very well for me i am tryin to get imap sync to work. However i keep getting auth errors the only way i can get it to connect to zimbra is to turn off tls and authentication on the MTA and also allow plain text and disable ssl in the IMAP server. However when i do this the server gets hit with so much spam i cannot transfer my own mail.

I guess my question is why is this line posted on the wiki for imapsync if it does not work? What exactly must i do to get imapsync connetcting short of turning my zimbra box into an open relay?

imapsync --buffersize 8192000 --nosyncacls --subscribe --syncinternaldates \
--host1 myserver.com --user1 yourAccount --password1 yourPassword \
--host2 mynewserver.com --user2 yourZimbraAccount --password2 yourZimbraPassword

I have tried the following line but always get errors about connecting PLEASE HELP!!!! my network trial is over half used and i still do not have anything to show my clients.

/usr/bin/imapsync --buffersize 8192000 --subscribe --noauthmd5 --ssl1 --ssl2 --nosyncacls --syncinternaldates --host1 shoemasters.com --user1 xxxxxxx@computerking.ca --password1 123456 --host2 127.0.0.1 --user2 xxxxx@computerking.ca --password2 123456 --exclude Junk --exclude Junk E-mail --exclude #KnownSpam --exclude #FalsePositives --exclude Trash --exclude Deleted Items --exclude Deleted Messages --exclude Deleted --exclude Fedora --exclude Freebsd --exclude Freevo --exclude MPlayer --exclude Postfix --exclude Samba --exclude Spamass --exclude SQL-Ledger
will try to use LOGIN authentication on host1
will try to use LOGIN authentication on host2
From imap server [shoemasters.com] port [993] user [xxxxxxx@computerking.ca]
To imap server [127.0.0.1] port [993] user [xxxxxx@computerking.ca]
Error connecting to shoemasters.com:993:

How do i make imapsync connect without also turning my system into a spam relay?

ps what is the support adantage of the network edition I still do not seem to have access to the support portal?
