Default Sync Zimbra GAL and Exchange GAL

Currently we have must of our users on Zimbra, but we have some of our head office users on exchange. The exchange users have a Zimbra mailbox that is forwarded to the exchange server.

Is there a way that I can sync the zimbra GAL into exchange?

Thanks for your help.

Sure it can, we currently have our environment mixed. In the admin options you can under GAL you can use a internal GAL or external or both. In the users properties you can have it auto fill from the GAL in a search.

I don't think I was clear enough in my original post, I need the exchange users to see the zimbra GAL, unfortunately exchange is picky about how it generates it's GAL.

To get the same view of the GAL from both exchange and zimbra, provision all the users in AD (Zimbra and Exchange users). Then configure Zimbra to use AD as the external GAL so the Zimbra users see the same GAL as the Exchange users. If your zimbra users are already in AD (which they might if you are on a windows domain), configure Zimbra to do external auth against AD and your zimbra users won't require new passwords.

That is a good idea, currently I have inherited this setup, currently many users share generic windows logins (ie sales, service), but they already have zimbra accounts. I am trying to push to put everyone on the AD so no one is sharing passwords and logins for obvious security reasons.

Hi nitewrap,
Can you also sync Zimbra desktop with MS Exchange calendar? Sorry, here's a newbie looking to get full connectivity to MS Exchange server from a linux desktop.

Thanks.

I am a linux user looking to get full connectivity to exchange as well, I am using zimbra desktop, is this possible? I setup an IMAP profile and can't see where to get the GAL, although my calendar items are there?

Default Activesync is the way to go

As I see it, in relation to Zimbra Desktop and Microsoft Exchange 2007 connectivity the only viable solution is ActiveSync. Forget IMAP, it has many limitation starting with the fact that only works with the mailbox.

I know that ActySync was create for mobile devices but has all the features to be used in desktop applications like Zimbra Desktop or Mozilla Sunbird (the bundle of Thunderbird 3 and Lightning 1.0).

Regards.
