Default proper way to setup a mac? duplicate emails

I setup a mac, and all was working fine, until the user discovered smart mailboxes.

So my user has a smart mailbox which shows her all unread mail, all mail in her inbox, and any mail that is flagged important

When new email arrives it is showing up in the smart mailbox, then about 2-5 minutes later a second email shows up a duplicate of the first.

I have no clue why.

Her email is setup with the isync connector, and imail is setup to sync with exchange.

If I log into the email on the web, I only see one copy of the email, so it is definitely only the imail program showing two email messages.

So how do I correct?

1) troubleshoot this and fix
2) remove zimbra connector and delete the email profile and recreate it

What is the proper way to have email setup for macs?

i take it you are connecting to zimbra via imap?

try rebuilding Mail's spotlight index via this terminal command:

sudo mdimport -f ~/Library/Mail/

You can rebuild from your desktop within mail.app

Choose the mailbox on your left, goto Mailbox - Rebuild

I have imail setup to use Exchange not imap.

I guess that is what I'm asking what is the right way to get address, calendar, and mail to sync with a mac.

use the connector for calendar and addressbook

then use exchange in imail?

It isnt 100% clear which is the zimbra recommended way, and it seems like there are many ways to set this up.

Thanks.

This is the only bit I can find in the WIKI.

====================================

Mail.app (aka Apple Mail) and Zimbra

To direct trashed, draft, sent messages into the proper IMAP folders, you must map the default Mail.app folders to special folders:

* open Mail.app
* click on the Trash folder under your Zimbra account
* go the Mailbox > Use this Mailbox for and select Trash
* do the same for Sent and Draft folders (unless they have been automatically mapped)
* they will now appear below the Mail.app Trash, Sent, Draft folders along with the special folders from other accounts.
* you will likely end up with new folders in the Zimbra section called 'Deleted Messages' and 'Sent Messages.'
* you should delete these folders now (move any mail before you delete them)

Indeed this is the proper way to do it.
You can even do this for the junk folder.

Don't use any kind of Exchange config to connect to Zimbra from a Mac. You should use IMAP for Mac Mail, CalDAV for iCal. The iSync connector will autoconfigure some of this for you, but it isn't strictly necessary except for syncing Address Book.

Well it seems like I have things almost back to normal.

There was an old mailbox called inbox important_ that was in the trash, once I purged that it cleaned things up and no more duplicates.

I upgraded to zimbra 6.0.0 ga, then upgraded the connector as well.

So the only issue left is that if we create an appointment on the iphone, it doesnt seem to sync up to zimbra.

But if we create the appointment on the calendar on the mac it shows up on the iphone almost right away.

Thoughts?

How is iphone configured? Your ZCS version doesn't appear to be NE which would suggest you're using CalDAV. Yes/No?
