Problem "parse error: Unable to parse iCalendar data" when subscribing to SugarCRM

This is my first post, so sorry if this is answered somewhere, I've tried a search with no success. I found a user reporting the same issue, but no response yet:
Unable to load a SugarCRM iCal Calendar

We've been using SucarCRM for a while, and the sales team uses the calendar frequently. We installed the very useful "Sugar iCal patch", which exports Sugar calendars using the iCalendar (ics) protocol. This enabled us to see the calendars in Thunderbird (using Sunbird) and in Apple's iCal application.

Since we moved to Sugar recently, users started subscribing their calendars to Sugar's. Every time a user subscribes to a calendar such as: http://SUGARHOST/sugar/ical_server.p...=USER&key=PASS

he/she receives this message at the Sugar Webclient interface:

"Appointments could not be retrieved. Make sure the following URL is a valid ICAL feed: http://SUGARHOST/sugar/ical_server.php?type=ics&user_name=USER&key=PASS"
