| | We Need Support for Entourage 2008 Hey guys, we purchased Zimbra Network Edition primarily for iSync.
I didn't realize that Entourage 2008 wasn't supported at the time of purchase.
What is the ETA on Entourage 2008 Support?
Thanks!
Dan

| | | Well, this thing keeps coming up and the essence of it is that MS still chooses to use proprietary protocols in Entourage, with no support for CalDAV, although I believe it does do IMAP. Snow Leopard will work both with the MS protocol, EWS, and with the open protocols, as a way to increase the viability of Mail/iCal in business environments that use Exchange. If you don't use Exchange then Mail/iCal are your best bets, or ZWC. (IMO ZDC isn't quite ready.)
Not to say that it wouldn't be nice if people who liked Entourage (and the upcoming Outlook 2010 for Mac) could have that choice, but pressure/requests should also go to MS to support common internet
protocols, and perhaps Apple to fill in some of the functionality gaps in Mail/iCal.

| | Well, it's kind of useless to put pressure on MS, since they are in a position to do what they please...
Zimbra positions itself as a MS alternative, so it has to provide the functionality MS does if it wants to compete.
In short: I think Zimbra has to come up with support for these major platforms.

| | Hi, Dan --
I'm a big fan of OWC; we're a medium-sized Mac shop, and we've purchased from you on many occasions.
I'm curious about the demand for compatibility with Entourage. Our organization actually purchased Zimbra NE to *avoid* using Entourage, as we found Entourage and Exchange performed very poorly with large mailboxes even after substantial tuning. Even users with smaller mailboxes wanted to avoid Entourage as they were unimpressed with Entourage's overall speed and interface quirks.
Most of our Mac users use Mail with IMAP, iCal with CalDAV and Address Book using the iSync connector, and this tends to work very well and provides nearly all of the functionality found in Entourage. Other users use the Zimbra web interface directly. Windows users use the Outlook connector, and are able to share calendars et al with the Mac users without problem. I would expect that most other Zimbra users in Mac shops had similar experiences; I've rarely heard any sysadmin comrades praise Entourage.
What's in Entourage that's the big draw? We may have encountered a similar problem, and worked around it in a way where I can provide some advice or guidance. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | | Why Join?
