Default Planning for Version 5 Upgrade...

If I am reading the docs correctly, version 5 will be supported on SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 (presumably SP1).

SuSE supports in-place upgrades from SLES9 to SLES10, so I am asking if in-place upgrades are one of the testing scenarios Zimbra is working on.

IOW, will we be able to upgrade from 4.5.x to 5.0.0 on a SLES9 server by doing for example:

zmcontrol stop
Reboot to SLES10SP1 DVD and upgrade system from SLES9
Reboot to SLES10SP1 and run the 5.0 install.sh script

If not, what will be the recommended way of upgrading an existing Zimbra server from SuSE ES9 to SuSE ES10?

Thanks!
Mark

I don't think that will work, as the libraries will change.

Because it's in Beta, it's still in testing, so I am unable to give more info than that.

You can give it a try, and we can help you through the process.

Hi John,

Sounds like this upgrade use case is not one being tested officially by Zimbra.

Assuming additional server hardware is available, how would you recommend we migrate from SuSE ES9 to SuSE ES10 when Zimbra 5 is released?

Thanks!
Mark

Mark,

I'm in the same boat with SLES 9. What did you come up with for a solution to this problem? In looking through the forum it looks to me like this may be the answer Moving ZCS to Another Server » Zimbra :: Blog. Thanks for any insight you can provide.
