Default outgoing mail "loops back to myself"

in my situation, I had just configured and started up the dhcp server, since this is a multi-function server. a windows replacement server

I'm using Split DNS here.

Zimbra thinks outgoing email to other domains loops back to itself for some reason!

DNS is working properly, hosts is working properly, External MTA is blank, relay = is blank.

Something is messing up in zimbra.
I just firewalled the machine and that's when the problem started.

i believe your problem could be related to a NATted server, and you may want to check on your split DNS config.

it may help looking at it again.
