Angry Install issues... Mac Specific

Hello, I've been struggling with getting Zimbra setup. I first tried setting up in linux and I was told by a zimbra employee that if im not familiar with Linux it would be too difficult to setup. No explanation or a point in the right direction.

Determined to test this software I stripped down a mac and download the Mac version. After getting root passwords and account info working properly, Im still unable to load the License, and thus havent been able to test anything. After three day's of monkey'ing with the software and multiple emails to said employee at Zimbra Im still directed to the Wiki. If someone could send some help my way I'd love to get on with the testing process. Hopefully I wont have to buy an exchange box. Thanks B

I guess this is the Open Source Edition of ZImbra that you're trying to install? If it is then your support will be via the forums or the wiki and access to our bug database bugzilla. This 'said employee' has directed you to the correct place.

As it's impossible to tell what the problem is from your lack of description, you'll have to humour me and try to tell us what's going wrong - as detailed as possible. BTW, I might not be the best person to help you as I know very little about the MAC. If you were installing it on CentOS, for instance, I'd be slightly better.

When I try to set the license using the instructions for zmlicense -i. The license wont take. Im assuming this is why the UI wont load. Are there specific instructions for installing on the mac platform? IE> click here, type this, restart now, Etc?

First of all, a couple of questions for you:

1. Is this the Network Edition or the Open Source Edition you're trying to install?

2. Are you behind a firewall and/or router? If so, do you have DNS A & MX records set for you server?

3. Is the hosts file set correctly.

4. Have you looked at the documentation here.

Check your set-up with the foillowing run on the Zimbra server:

Code:
host `hostname` <-- backticks not single quotes
dig yourdomain.com any
dig yourdomain.com mx
Are you also certain there's nothing else running on port 25 on this machine?

Check the /var/log/zimbra.log (that's probably in a different location for the mac) for any errors,

I found an article on zimbra's site that tells me to check the permissions on the .log file in the Opt/Zimbra/Redolog directory but there's no .log file there. The folder is empty.

I tried three times on Mac G4 to get to working Zimbra so here some suggestions:
- your Mac has INTRANET address? I see 192.168.1.110 as your IP. If you use intranet address, then your installation falls under so-called "split-dns" install, so there be dragons. Zimbra loves Fully Qualified Domain names.
- You can use Mac application called Console (found in Applications/Utilities) to read logs from Zimbra.
- Start from fresh OS X Tiger again. Update to 10.4.9. Update Java to latest vers. coming from Apple. Switch firewall off (you can turn it back on later). Do not enable Web Sharing. Document your installation steps for rewieving. I think you should have at least 768 Mb RAM too. Good Luck.
