Unable to start services.

So i am unable to get the services to run. i get the following error:

Zimbra Services

error: /etc/conaryrc:3: when processing includeConfigFile: /etc/conary/config.d/zimbra:1: when processing includeConfigFile: Error reading config file http://updates.zimbra.com/conaryrc: Temporary failure in name resolution Release RPL1

Cannot determine services - exiting

This is running on a VM. so i didnt really configure any of it. However it is able to access the network.

If you're behind a firewall then you need DNS A & MX records pointing to your server, do you have that? Is this the Zimbra VM Appliance you've downloaded?

Yes already have a mx record and a A record pointing to this. It appears to me that zimbra is trying to call home. It is all hanging on this. The webservice doesnt start nothing starts other than ssh. However ssh i believe is pre zimbra call home. It is not having an issue connecting to the net. I am able to get into the 8003 page over ssl and run the updater:

This tells me it is able to talk to the rpath servers or whatever. But what is the problem with zimbra and calling home and some bird named canary. The box is the vm that i downloaded off of the zimbra site. Thanks, it is running with 1 gb ram.

Hehehe. "Conary" not canary. It's the command line interface into rPath's package management system. Some process must try to invoke conary for you as it doesn't do it automatically.

You may want to try and look at /etc/conaryrc and check for any file ".conaryrc" file in the local directory.

Don't ask me about the attributes and values - I'd have to dig out the details from the rPath site too. But 'conary help' is a place to start.

haha conary is a play on words. anyways yea i went in there and flat out tried to delete it after following the path in which takes. the include whatever i verified that whatever was there and everything played out. well upon deleting it it went haywire. so i placed it back since i had made a backup. Not trying to get around the call home just want the thing to work.

I did some digging on the system were evaluating. I have the same files.

I'd say it was just what the message said: a temporary DNS failure. It looks OK from a dig query at the moment.

I'd say that at start-up or via cron the Zimbra appliance checks for any updates.

Found this with a recursive grep:
libexec/installer/util/utilfunc.sh: PACKAGEINST='conary update'

so I bet with some digging you could find out where it's called from.
