Default rpath and split DNS

I recently downloaded and installed the Zimbra 4.5 Network Appliance and am having problems configuring split DNS in rPath.(The server sits inside a firewall with port redirection to the server.)

I cannot find named.conf anywhere. I can't seem to install bind either, or check if it is installed - am I correct in saying there's no yast or apt-get on rPath? If so, what can you use to install apps.

Or am I going down the wrong route completely using bind to make the server look at a local IP rather that it's external?

To install software on rPath you use 'conary' and you should check the rPath wiki on their site for details. The easiest thing to do is set-up a DNS server elsewhere on your LAN with your records instead of trying to install it on rPath.

I see what you mean - doesn't seem to be much info for installing DNS Server on the appliance other than downloading a whole new appliance like lochDNS.

Can you help out with a link to the wiki??

Jas the general idea is that the appliance is just that, it runs zimbra and nothing else. You are using the vmware/rpath installation because you want less management overheads. We are meant to keep as much unecessary stuff out of the appliance as possible.

So best install the nameserver somewhere else, maybe on the vmware host? or your gateway?

http://wiki.rpath.com/wiki/Conary

That's the wiki page for the 'conary' software installation in rpath.

good luck
