Default Zimbra vmware appliance not working

I've downloaded and installed the vmware appliance and booted it up, it's telling me to connect to 192.168.0.105:8003 in a browser but that link does not work. It does ping but nmap to 192.168.0.105 tells me that port 8003 is closed. Have I missed an important step or is this appliance meant to work out of the box?

Uh, it's been a while since I ran the VMware of it (I REALLY didn't like the setup process...if you have a spare PC I would just install it on that) but my guess is that your VM can't communicate with the host PC.

This is actually rather common with VMware/Linux

You should be able to connect to the setup wizard at that IP from another PC or another VM.

I've had a LOT more luck with VMWare Server (free) allowing communication with the host computer (same OS, Ubuntu, different results between player/server).

Cheers for the reply. It was a vmware issue - the network bridging on the vm network interface was not configured properly.
