Default External DNS Server

I'm using an external DNS service that points to my server. I currently have BIND on my server stopped. I have my server setup using static IPs not DHCP so I have no local IPs.

I'm wondering if it is necessary to have to run BIND again to get Zimbra or Postfix working. I seem to be having some problems with my installation and configuration of Zimbra and I'm thinking this might be a reason.

You do not necessarily have to run BIND on your Zimbra server to get it working, but you do have to have DNS working properly. So, the DNS server that you are pointing to should be able to resolve the address of your Zimbra server. You will also need an MX record pointing to your Zimbra server.

What specific problems are you having? If you post more details there's a good chance you'll get some answers.
