How to connect to other MYSQL server in zimbra

I have installed zimbra in a server. Now I want to have separate mysql database at other server.

How to I edit the mysql connect to another server? I have edited in /opt/zimbra/conf/my.cnf and /opt/zimbra/conf/my.logger.cnf to point to other mysql server. I just change the bind-address=localhost to IP address

after i restart then mysql cant connect.
I am wondering if I have leave out anything. Anyone have done this before?

You are just trying to connect to another MySQL instance on another server? If that's what you're trying to do then you won't be able to do it, ZImbra requires it's own copy of MySQL.

Are you trying to add a separate mysql instance to the box, or add tables to the existing mysql database? It's generally not a good idea to move the Zimbra database to a different instance because Zimbra's upgrade scripts might do weird things, and you might hit performance issues. As for a seperate mysql instance, I have one running on my test box, and because the ports are different, there is no problem with that. Adding tables to the Zimbra mysql database also leaves you at the risk of upgrade scripts, and performance problems, but it's possible.

You don't need to move mysql to improve performance. If you have performance problems I'd look elsewhere for the problem. What's the specification of your hardware and is there anything else running apart from Zimbra?

Your current hardware specs and user group size (max active simutaneously & total users) will help us the most.
