Zimbra

Hi All,

This is probably my last try at getting Zimbra running on my server. Having to face my boss to tell him "Hey we have got a fantastic product we can use for email, but we can't use it because to get a correct installation working fully requires x amount days of my time!!" So far I have spent four days trying to get this thing working and coming back with same ol errors. slapd & dns, mx records!.

I have now used a registered domain name via 1&1 we had parked. setup zimbra server with mail.mobecservices.co.uk as hostname our FQDN is mobecservices.co.uk.
1&1 hosting required us to setup subdomain mail.mobecservices.co.uk for some reason. I have edited the settings via 1&1 control panel so that the A record points to our External Static IP address with ports forwarding to the internal LAN IP address of the server. the MX records points to mail.mobecservices.co.uk.

When i do "dig mail.mobecservices.co.uk mx" I get:-

Is this correct? if not what else do i need to do now. My Server is running Ubuntu 6.06 LTS Server. I really need to get this running today to able to justify the time spent has been worth it!. HAS ANYONE SUCCESSFULLY INSTALLED THIS WITH MY CONFIGURATION STATED?. Especially with the 1&1 control panel settings. Some one must have a step by step guide that works. Yes, I have scoured this forum now for days, finding various guides but they all seem to be missing steps some where along the line, and i have so far got by by building my own Frankenstein Zimbra/Ubuntu install to this point!

What is the exact error you're getting?

ok, after running /opt/zimbra/libexec/zmsetup.pl to continue install

1st error is:
DNS ERROR - none of the MX records for mail.mobecservices.co.uk
resolve to this host

Do you already have LDAP running?
Also, can you post: /tmp/zmsetup.log.4783

I'm confused in the log it says ldap is running. here si the zmsetup.log

Well it doesn't say it's running, but it says that it tried to initialize it.

Can you stop any zimbra processes:
ps auxx | grep zimbra
kill anything left over

Then-
telnet localhost 389
telnet hostname.domain.com 389

Are any of them successful? You can also netstat -a and look for something binding to port 389.
