ok I have now re-installed zimbra from scratch, I still get:-

Setting defaults...No results returned for A lookup of mail.mobecservices.co.uk
    Checked nameservers:
    192.168.1.78

    DNS ERROR resolving mail.mobecservices.co.uk
It is suggested that the hostname be resolveable via DNS
    Change hostname [Yes] n

DNS ERROR resolving MX for mail.mobecservices.co.uk
It is suggested that the domain name have an MX record configured in DNS
    Change domain name? [Yes] n

But Zimbra has completed install successfully without errors

    zimbra@mail:/usr/src/zcs$ zmcontrol status
    Host mail.mobecservices.co.uk
    antispam Running
    antivirus Running
    ldap Running
    logger Running
    mailbox Running
    mta Running
    snmp Running
    spell Running

Just need to sort out the dns & mx issues. How do i re-run the install to sort out the dns & mx configurations? is it the zmsetup.pl script?

The setup doesn't sort out the configs. It only tells you that you've got a problem with DNS

So, you DNS server is 192.168.1.78
Add an MX record and a A record to your DNS Server for your ZCS box.

    ok like this?

    ;
; Addresses and other host information.
    ;
    @ IN SOA mail.mobecservices.co.uk. hostmaster.mail.mobecservices.co.uk. (
    10118 ; Serial
    43200 ; Refresh
    3600 ; Retry
    3600000 ; Expire
    2592000 ) ; Minimum
; Define the nameservers and the mail servers
    IN NS 192.168.1.78
    IN A 192.168.1.78
    IN MX 10 mail.mobecservices.co.uk.

Okay, did you take a look at your catalina.out file or mailbox.log

    /opt/zimbra/tomcat/logs/catalina.out
    /opt/zimbra/log/mailbox.log

Ok I have re-installed again. I'm able to get into the zimbra admin console. But still have dns & mx records resolv error. I have attached my logs, hope you can spot the problem and help me, Thanks for your help this far. As my deadline looms I may have to walk away from zimbra if a can't even get a test server up & running & look for a simpler solution, damn shame as it looks really cool

    Hope you can help.

You should disable IPv6 protocol on your system, if you haven't done that already. In you resolv.conf, do you have multiple nameservers listed? If you do there should only be your local server listed, unresolved addresses should be sent to root servers outside your LAN.
