Default Zimbra: Outgoing Email Issues

Hello There,

I am not sure if this is the right place to post issues with outgoing mail.

Currently, all of my users receive incoming mail from the internet and locally.

My problem is when users send emails to internet email accounts they are placed into the queues with the following error:

Reason: Connect to server X :Connection Refused

Version: Release 4.5.4_GA_763.FC5_20070418154243 FC5 FOSS edition
OS: Fedora 6 ( Linux mail.itas.ca 2.6.20-1.2312.fc5 #1 Tue Apr 10 15:09:44 EDT 2007 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux)

Any tips or help would be greatly appreciated. I am currently reading the troubleshooting steps, and nothing has worked thus far.

Cheers,

Brent

Sounds like a DNS issue to me. Is the remote server rejecting a connection from your Zimbra server, or is your Zimbra server rejecting connections by the clients? You might want to take a look at /var/log/ and /opt/zimbra/log for more clues.

Hey Soxfan,

Here is the last 25 lines of the log file after I tried a send in /var/zimbra.log:

May 16 14:26:55 mail postfix/smtp[4168]: E7576D70554: to=, relay=127.0.0.1[127.0.0.1], delay=1, status=sent (250 2.6.0 Ok, id=32198-09, from MTA([127.0.0.1]:10025): 250 Ok: queued as 40A56D70555)
May 16 14:26:55 mail postfix/qmgr[24352]: E7576D70554: removed
May 16 14:26:55 mail postfix/smtp[4172]: connect to aspmx.l.google.com[72.14.253.27]: Connection refused (port 25)
May 16 14:26:55 mail postfix/smtp[4172]: 40A56D70555: to=, relay=none, delay=0, status=deferred (connect to aspmx.l.google.com[72.14.253.27]: Connection refused)
May 16 14:26:55 mail slapd[18017]: <= bdb_equality_candidates: (zimbraDomainType) index_param failed (18)
May 16 14:26:55 mail slapd[18017]: <= bdb_equality_candidates: (zimbraMailStatus) index_param failed (18)
May 16 14:26:55 mail slapd[18017]: <= bdb_equality_candidates: (zimbraDomainType) index_param failed (18)
May 16 14:26:55 mail slapd[18017]: <= bdb_equality_candidates: (zimbraMailStatus) index_param failed (18)

It appears to be the server that is being rejected?

Still looks like a DNS issue to me. You may want to check out the wiki and search the forums for information on setting up and troubleshooting DNS with Zimbra.

That's a good place to start.
Also, have you changed the relay host settings in the admin ui?

If you don't use relay, it should be set to localhost.

Thanks,

It was not set to localhost, changed it. Still having problems, but that is one step closer to solving the problem I am sure.

This issue was a result of my outgoing firewall NATing the email. Therefore the email showed as coming from a non-routable email to my relay.

Cheers,

B.
