What 'other way' would there be? They are third-party applications provided by other people.

Question 100% solid set instructions?

is the wiki up-to-date on the build instructions then,

i mean if i sit here for two hour compiling stuff - is it supposed to work or am i following a set of unfinished statements?

for instance take a closer look at the Net Snmp section in comments:

echo Do the last two steps manually
# cd your zimbra Directory/ThirdParty/snmp
# sudo /opt/zimbra/snmp-5.1.2.tar.gz .

result ==

sudo: /opt/zimbra/snmp-5.1.2.tar.gz: command not found !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Aspell

what is this saying in the section about a Newer version of Aspell also have this problem. Revised Install???

has this been added by a Zimbra developer - i mean which bit should I follow the statement that reads

./configure --prefix=/opt/zimbra/aspell-($ASPELL_VERSION) CXX=g++32; make)

should I insert my own aspell version number and should there be a ) on the end ???

thanks for your support
Costa

this is a friendly warning! if you're not familiar with opensource build procedures of common components and hacking things to get them working, don't bother trying to build zimbra. the third party build is difficult, depending on the platform you're building on and any documentation i've seen is out of date and/or platform specific. the main build process is generally straight forward, depends on state of the source tree, which itself is currently quite out of date.

for example the snmp you're building is very out of date and the actual zimbra source tree uses a newer version. you'll come across many of these difficulties on a build. unless you have a really good reason to build from source I would save you the pain and say run a binary

.....erm, as these links are likely to change with every version release I don't think there's much point in posting them all here.

i disagree - in so much as the links you provide in the build_cvs_howto refer to links that are now redundant.

The links i have provided refer to archive locations, that are unlikely to change.

This is all of course until a new release of the Zimbra source code is available - at which time the third party versions change.

This i agree with, but i am not sure which of the two you are suggesting.

Obviously I was talking about the version changes in Zimbra, people can get the links from the source when it's available.
