Default Zimbra on CentOS 4.4 VPS

Hi all.
First I'm sorry if this comes through as a duplicate.

I have a VPS with CentOS 4.4.
I downloaded the RHEL4 version of Zimbra and I'm trying to install.

Everything appears to go fine, all prereqs are there and RPMS seem to be installing fine, then after the RPMS install I get:

Code:
/usr/bin/perl: symbol lookup error: /opt/zimbra/zimbramon/lib/i386-linux-thread-multi/auto/DBI/DBI.so: undefined symbol: Perl_Tstack_sp_ptr
I found a few posts in these forums, but none have them have worked for me.

This is with the Open Source and Network trial.

Thanks for any and all help!

Does your VPS have a control panel? If so, you're not likely to get Zimbra working. You'll need to get your copy of perl updated by your hosting provider, this is something they need to do.

If you're installing a Network Edition of Zimbra you do realise that this is an unsupported configuration and you won't be able to get support for it.

Thanks.
Yeah support already turned me down, that's why I posted here.

It does have a control panel - WHM/Cpanel

Why can't I upgrade perl myself?
I have a VPS with root access vis ssh so shouldn't I be able to upgrade this myself?

Yes, I know.

I have a feeling that's likely to be a problem, have a look through the forums for some details. I don't think anyone has managed to get a VPS working.

There should be no problem updating your system yourself. You should be able to do a 'yum whatprovides' for any missing bits.

You should also make sure your systems meets the required specifications as well.

I'm assuming that you are using OpenVZ or Virtuozzo. It will work perfectly, I've done it (see http://forum.openvz.org/index.php?t=...109&#msg_2109). The down side is that its resource requirements are quite high so you really need a minimum 1GB guaranteed memory VPS and be able to burst CPU usage to the full capacity of the server. If you are hosting this in a datacenter, at that point you might be at the cost of a dedicated server.

Interestingly enough, when we first tested Zimbra in a VPS configuration, we also tested Scalix. Although the recommended Scalix requirements were much lower than Zimbra, it turned out to be just the opposite in a VPS environment. We installed both in a 1GB VPS. Zimbra ran reasonably comfortably whereas Scalix was really unusable. So for whatever it's worth, install and test it with different memory configurations to get a true feel for how it works.
