Sorry for my above posting. I want to reply this kind of posting :

Which error are you talking about? You posted something different in your earlier post. Did you follow all the instructions from the original post?

I guess you realise that openSuSE 10.2 is an unsupported operating system and the OSS build hasn't been built for that?

Default Installation cancelled on SuSE 10.2

After installing and uninstalling several times I received that message with the Store failing to install. I had to completely reinstall SuSE to get the install to finish once more.

Plus, if you are running with only 256MB of RAM, you are wasting your time. With only a few mail boxes active, ZCS will eat up 600MB+ of RAM and never look back. I'm running 1.5GB's and am worried that when I put ZCS in production with 100 mailboxes that 1.5GB won't be enough.

I used 1 GB of RAM, OpenSUSE 10.2 in standard console default and everything work great.
Well, that's good for you but not everyone has that experience.

You post this throw-away line as though openSuSE 10 & openSuSE 10.2 are exactly the same distribution, they are not. There were changes between those two releases of openSuSE - but I'm sure you're already aware of that. Zimbra was built on, and for, openSuSE 10. My point in making that comment about 'unsupported' was to draw that fact to the attention of the person that I quoted, believe it or not but not every person installing Zimbra knows they've installed it on an unsupported o/s.

By all means feel free to run Zimbra on any version of Linux you choose, it is Open Source after all, and if you're successful then please share your knowledge with the rest of the community.

Hi Bill,

I agree with you that OpenSUSE 10.0 and OpenSUSE 10.2 have a big changes between those two release. My point is "I used OpenSUSE 10.2 and follow the instruction in this great tutorial without any error. Yes, I got an error about DNS resolver but after create a MX records for DNS Server, it's solve the problem". If somebody used OpenSUSE 10.2 and got an error and in another side I used a same & similar version distro without problem, maybe it's not about distro.

I'm not make any different changes with this tutorial, so if someone ask me, "What your problem in your side while installing Zimbra on OpenSUSE 10.2", the answer maybe "Just follow the instruction...". I shared my experience in my first posting.

Thanks for your response.

Regards,

Vavai

Thumbs up

Just to let everyone know,

I have successfully installed Zimbra 4.5.8 opensource edition
onto the release version of openSUSE 10.3 and have updated
the instructions at the start of this thread accordingly.

Could the moderator change the title of this thread to
"Installing Zimbra 4.5.7 or later on either openSUSE 10.2 or 10.3 a complete guide"
to reflect the changes

cheers
bigmudcake

I installed 4.5.9 GA in OpenSuse 10.3 using your comprehensive guide and seems to be good.
I then migrated from SuSe 10 where Zimbra's been updated several times in the last year. Just one error appears (with every mail received) -

postfix/smtpd[25880]: unable to dlopen /opt/zimbra/cyrus-sasl-2.1.22.3/lib/sasl2/libotp.so.2: librsaref.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

librsaref.so is missing for sure. Not sure if it's important or not?

Thanks

Default Installation fails without even trying.

Hi,

I always get stuck installing Zimbra at the point where I have to press enter to start the install. I've spent a couple of weeks solidly on installing Zimbra. The installation complains about my hosts file not being correct. Once I managed to go further and get it to install but it was by copying and pasting from different forums, obiuosly now I can't remember what I did. As I'm novice to Linux thought this thread will help me install Zimbra but it does not help me to configure my MX record in DNS. Can anyone help me with this step by step? The documentation about DNS assumes I know about scripting language or something as it does not make sense to me. Is there not a tool I can use that will setup my DNS for me.

My Windows mail server is collapsing and after seeing what Zimbra can do I'd love to use it.

You don't actually say which operating system you're using, which is it? Setting up a DNS server is fairly straightforward but it will take some effort to learn the basics of what you're doing. If you are behind a NAT router then you will need a Split DNS set-up, you can either follow the instructions in the 'DNS In A Nutshell thread (search the forums for that) or the Split DNS in the wiki article. Post the details of the /etc/hosts file so we can see if it's correct.

I managed to get it running. (Hosts file is space separated not tab like in Windows)
