Default Ssl Smtp

Hi,
I would like to configure zimbra to use SSL with smtp.

I uncommented this line in the master.cf file:
smtps inet n - n - - smtpd
-o smtpd_tls_wrappermode=yes -o smtpd_sasl_auth_enable=yes

but am not sure if there is anything else that needs to be done.

Thanks,

Welcome to the forums.

What's wrong with TLS, which Zimbra uses for SMTP connections.

In order to send Mac mail through the Internet internally as well as to be able to send email externally only if authenticated and using SSL.

I don't quite understand what you're saying. Are you saying that mac mail doesn't support TLS or that TLS isn't as secure as SSL?

Yes, TSL doesn't work with Mac mail.

I also don't understand why you've made the changes you outlined in your first post, you only need to enable SSL fo port 25 for a secure connection. As far as I know (which is next to nothing as far as mac software is concerned), mac mail will handle the connection OK.

I was following these instructions to enable smtp/ssl by configuring an additional port (standard smtp ssl port 465) in the Zimbra postfix config.

The instructions in the wiki are for _additional_ ports, the default port 25 accepts SLL connections. I use SSL with my own server and with another Zimbra server, they are both port 25 connections via ssl.
