    Default Is SpamAssassin running?

Can anyone tell me if SpamAssassin is running on my new installation?

What: I installed 7.26GA because I needed to put it on an i386 machine, long story.

I run: "ps -ef |grep spam" ...but nothing comes up. And...if I "apt-get install assassin" ....it asks me if I want to install it.

What I'm wondering this: I'm getting a ton of spam with this new server install even though I have followed most of Zimbra's recommendations on spam.

    Thanks,
    Joe

That's hardly surprising as the anti-spam system is called amavisd. The correct way to check if a service is running is to run the following command:

    Code:
    zmcontrol status

That's also not surprising as ZCS is installed in it's own sub-folders as individual packages and not from Ubuntu repositories.

Which recommendations are those and what changes have you made? You can also see what happened to an email by checking the mail headers, you'll see the spam scores and status in there. You'd have to give more detail if you are having a problem with spam. What changes have you made to the system? Have you modified the Tag/Kill percentages? What problem are you seeing? Do you have any RBLs in use and if so what are they?

Have you also looked at any of the forum threads and wiki articles on this topic?
    Regards

    Bill,

Thank you for the reply. It was very helpful. I will look inside the emails to see the score.

I made many of the changes indicated in one of the forum posts, I think it was this one:
    https://wiki.zimbra.com/wiki/Improving_Anti-spam_system

I set all the RBLs I saw recommended.

I did not change the percentages yet, They are 75/33.

I will post more when I get into work. Sorry, for some reason I can't get into the admin site from home.

    Thanks.

    Bill,

    OK, my percentages are:
    Kill: 75
    Tag: 33

    The RBLs I'm using are:
    cbl.abuseat.org
    bl.spamcop.net
    dnsbl.sorbs.net
    sbl.spamhaus.org
    relays.mail-abuse.org

The checks I have "checked" are:
    reject_non_fqdn_sender
    rejct_unknown_sender_domain

I installed razor and pyzor a few days ago. I don't think I configured anything there.

And probably other stuff I don't remember from that link.

    Any suggestions? Thanks.

I use a Kill/Tag of 66/25 but if you make any changes then keep an eye on it for false positives and adjuct accordingly.

You don't need five RBLs three or four should suffice, I use the following:

    Code:
    zen.spamhaus.org
    dnsbl.dronebl.org
    bl.spameatingmonkey.net
    psbl.surriel.com
They should be in that order which is the most effective first.

I never use any of those settings.

I don't use any of those and never found them necessary. You should also set to reject unlisted recipients as I don't believe it's set on ZCS 7.2.6.
