    Default Installation on i386 question

Question: I have an old machine running Zimbra 5, with a small amount of mail, but important none the less. I want to put on it 8.06. It's an i386 machine. Is this possible?

I just installed Ubuntu 12.04.4 for i386 and it works fine as an OS. Also, I installed all the dependencies it appears for Zimbra because install.sh runs through until it sees the OS is 64-bit.

    Thanks for your help.

No, it doesn't. Zimbra 8 requires 64 bit architecture. It would possible to install previous version (Zimbra 6 by example) but Zimbra 6 was end of life. IMHO, Would better to replace the machine if you wish to stick on Zimbra.

What about the one 32 bit option I see on the zimbra site to install version 7-something?

The 32 bit version was deprecated and would not be updated on next version. You can go with this but considering all binary using older version of each OS : Open Source Edition Downloads: Enterprise Messaging and Collaboration Software by Zimbra means the OS would against end of life risk too

Ok, so would it be safe to say that IF I have an i386 machine where I'd like to run Zimbra, that I need to use:

    Ubuntu 8.04 LTS
    7.2.5 GA Release

....And can it also be said that the Ubuntu/Zimbra combination above is the "newest" possible for an i386 machine?

    Again my problem:
I have an i386 machine with a special configuration where I'd like to continue to run Zimbra, but need to upgrade the OS.

    Thanks,
    Joe

CORRECTION: It appears (someone correct me if I'm wrong) that the latest and greatest I could possibly install on an i386 machine would be:

    7.2.6 GA Release

...and I'm choosing the Ubuntu option of Ubuntu 8.04 LTS I think.

    ALSO:
1.) Don't forget to change to old-releases when installing an old version of Ubuntu so you can get updates...

"If you want to continue using an outdated release then edit /etc/apt/sources.list and change archive.ubuntu.com to old-releases.ubuntu.com"

    (change EVERYTHING to old-releases)

    and

2.) I used this video that I found somewhere that said it was the same process as the '8.26 GA and Ubuntu 8.04 LTS setup' that I was using)...
Zimbra 7.1.4 OSE Ubuntu 10.04 With Apache Web Server Installation HD Video Tutorial 1 HR. - YouTube
...which worked out very well I think.
