Zimbra Network Edition on ubuntu

Hi guys,

I am running zimbra open source on ubuntu 6.06.1 LTS and I am very happy with that. On a CentOS 4 I am testing the Network Edition and now I would like to upgrade the opensource version on Ubuntu to the Network Edition without changing the operating system - Is there a way to do it?

You won't be supported if you use Ubuntu as OS for the NE.

Red Hat is the only supported OS for Zimbra Network edition. The rpm's are only packaged for Red Hat and although it may work on other systems (e.g. CentOS) it won't be supported.

No it's not.
You can also run it on SUSE ES9 or OpenSUSE 10 or Mac OSX (10.4.7)...

I wouldn't recommend openSuSE 10 as a platform for NE (other than for testing), it will lose support when SLES10 version is released.

What does this mean?
If I buy now NE and install it onto a supported OS, I will loose the support if I don't change the OS?

I just started to think about openSUSE as Ubuntu is not supported, and I wan't to update 2 installs from opensource to NE.

Now I am confused.....

The goal is to provide "Enterprise *nux" support for the Network Edition.

Phoenix is right in the sense that if you have a choice, stay with an enterprise-class grade *nux like MacOS X, RedHat EL, SuSE EL, etc.

Now, you will be able to migrate from a "regular *nux" to an enterprise *nux if you wish; however, you can remove that step all together by choosing an enterprise linux now.

We will have a beta version of Ubuntu Network out in the 4.5.2 timeframe.

Ok guys, now there is an installer for Ubuntu 6 x86 Network Edition...

So, which would be the procedure tu UPGRADE?

In fact, I need to UPGRADE from openSuSE10 4.5.5 to Ubuntu 6 x86 4.5.6!

I suppose the following:

- tar the actual /opt/zimbra (stopping the zimbra server - right?)
- Install Ubuntu on the new server
- Install a fresh Zimbra 4.5.5 server
- Stop new Zimbra server
- Copy the tar-ed /opt/zimbra on the new server
- Run the UPGRADE with the 4.5.5 installer
- Finally UPGRADE to 4.5.6

Is it possible ?

I know suse and ubuntu are quite different platforms (RPM's and DEB's), but I think maybe it will work...

Yup, (and yes always stop and grep for any remaining processes owned by zimbra)
Note that 'backup' refers to all your zimbra directories-where ever they may be...
