Default java resource heavy after 4.5 upgrade

Since the upgrade from 4.0 to 4.5 java is running extremly heavy on the server. taking up almost all of the cpu on a dual proc, dual core xeon 3ghz machine. and it is also eating up about half of the 2 gigs of memory. We have approxiamtly 20-30 users. this seems a little off to me.

recommendations?

thanks.

I just upgraded to 4.5.1. Im hoping this has an impact on the problem. As soon as everyone leaves the office things drop down completly. So its definatly not hanging. at peak today the load average on the server was at 26.78 with only 1 process bearing that load.
