How many IMAPS users do you have? Enabling the imapproxy seems to have a positive effect, but it doesn't seem to solve the problem entirely. Is there any way you can provide perf. numbers after enabling the imapproxy service? It would also be interesting to see a set of java stacktraces both before and after enabling imapproxy.

how about periodic (say every 5 minutes) Java thread dumps by sending kill -3 to the tomcat Java process, and attaching the catalina.out with the results of that to bug 14160? Will greatly help diagnose this.

i wont be able to get any dumps until tommorow unfortunatly....however the upgrade to 4.5.1 has made a difference. its still chugging along but only at a load average of 6.16 currently instead of 28.
