I get this error message from LDAP :

zimbra@ghost:~/bin$ ldap start

TLS: error:20074002:BIO routines:FILE_CTRL:system lib bss_file.c:354
TLS: error:140B0002:SSL routines:SSL_CTX_use_PrivateKey_file:system lib ssl_rsa.c:648
main: TLS init def ctx failed: -1
ERROR - failed to start slapd

zimbra@ghost:~/bin$

zimbra@ghost:~/bin$ cd
zimbra@ghost:~$ sh -x bin/ldap start
+ PID=
+ PIDFILE=/opt/zimbra/openldap/var/run/slapd.pid
+ mkdir -p /opt/zimbra/openldap/var/run/
+ source /opt/zimbra/bin/zmshutil
bin/ldap: 1: source: not found
+ exit 1
zimbra@ghost:~$

Could one of you out there help me?
I`m kinda stuck...

Hello, and welcome to the Zimbra Forums.
We appreciate the kind words!

Couple of questions:
1) Did you compile from source?
2) What version of ZCS are you running?

Thanks
john

Question reply

zimbra@ghost:~$ zmcontrol -v

Release 4.5.0_GA_612.UBUNTU6 UBUNTU6

zimbra@ghost:~$

This is the version I use. I have the .deb packages and there was a shell install script , wich quided me trought the installation.
I just talked with someone and he told me he had the same problem with Ubuntu 6.10 and that it was , i quote :
" ... It turns out that this is the result of Ubuntu 6.10 not using 'bash' as its primary shell. '/bin/sh' is symbolically linked to '/bin/dash', a lightweight bash-alike. It doesn't have 'source' which is required by most of the Zimbra scripts ('source' is the same as '.' which Zimbra could also have used). Changing Ubuntu to use '/bin/bash' for 'bin/sh' fixes the problem and Zimbra installed fine. "

Could this be the fact for my ldap not working ?

Thanks once again !!

It's worth a shot. I personally havn't seen this before; however, that would explain it.

Wow...Superbowl !!
Well it turns out that user zimbra was using shell bash as default...
so i would say this cuts out the "bash" problem...
Do you have any other suggestions ?!?!
Thanks again.

Well, let's look at a couple of things. I would assume that because LDAP didn't start, that nothing else started, correct?
Also, I'm assuming that your install failed at "Starting LDAP", right?

If that's the case, please post your install log: /tmp/install.log,xxxx

Well ofcourse . U assume right.
I am gonna paste you the output of my log.
...as a matter of fact...i`m not gonna post anything anymore...cause ..lol

I did a fresh install...for zimbra...and guess what ..it works now...
SO LDAP was really affected by the "bash" shell...

Thanks Guys...
!!!
Great support here..

Ahh, makes sense now. The installer script must run with the correct bash shell.

We're glad things are working, and hope you enjoy Zimbra.

If you have any questions or problems, please let us know!

Thanks

It's not exactly obvious, at least to me, what problem you're talking about? Is it the wrong bash shell or LDAP won't start? A bit more information might go someway to help resolving the problem. Operating system, Zimbra version, problem description and any error messages?
