Default MTA says it starts, but doesn't stay running

Found it...ASSP mail filter.

Wow, I'm completely stumped on this one.. I can't find a log entry anywhere that tells me what's wrong. This is on Ubuntu, after removing exim, postfix, courier pop and imap and authdaemon.

Default Another MTA running?

Is there any chance there's already another MTA bound to port 25?

Default Very remote,

I removed postfix completely, exim before I installed postfix, hula used postfix. I had been runnning postfix for a few months. I removed it via synaptic and then renamed /etc/postfix/ . A telnet to localhost:25 gets no response at all.

Any other tests I can run to tell?

Default Solved, ASSP running on port 25.

The ASSP service was running on port 25. It's not anymore. I removed everything, rebooted and re-installed. Now it runs just fine. Doesn't seem to accept mail, but it is at least running.

Thanks everyone.
