Mac OS X Install Not Visible...

Hi -

I am testing Zimbra Open Source as a possible alternative for a groupware server. I was able to get the installation done quite easily, and I am even able to test the installation from the Terminal and all services are running. However, when I try to get into the admin page (https://mail.XXXXXX.com:7071/zimbraAdmin) I get nowhere - the browser says it can't get to the server.

Any ideas? I've also tried going directly to the server using its IP address, but it's like port 7071 isn't receiving. Yes, I have checked to see if it's being blocked by a firewall setting and no, it isn't.

What does running a 'zmcontrol status' as the zimbra user show? Tomcat probably isn't running, any other web server running on this system? I assume that your DNS A & MX records are correct and point to the Zimbra server? Any errors or port conflict warnings in the install log? This subject has been covered once or twice in the forums.

zmcontrol status shows the following:

antispam Running
antivirus Stopped
zmclamdctl is not running
ldap Running

mta Running
snmp Running
spell Running

As you noted, Tomcat isn't running and there IS another web server running. However, I don't want to take that server down so I'll just be uninstalling Zimbra Open Source on this machine and installing Kerio Mail Server in its place.

You can change the port that Zimbra uses when you do the install, why would you want to remove it?

Won't he have the same exact problem regardless of which webmail system he runs? You can't have 'em both trying to bind to port 80...

Frankly, the reason I'm looking at trying to uninstall this package is that although the user experience is quite nice, I've found the Mac OS X installation to be less than stellar. Now I'm trying to uninstall Zimbra and I find these great instructions after digging around in the docs for a while:

To uninstall servers you run the install script -u and then delete the ZCS directory and remove the ZCS tgz file on the server.

A quick Spotlight search of the Mac showed me that the install.sh script was sitting in /opt/zimbra/libexec/installer, so I entered ./install.sh -u as root and was treated to this clear, concise set of error messages:

WTF? And you wonder why I'm going to Kerio Mail Server? At least every installation I've done with KMS has taken me no time at all, has required no use of the Terminal to install and configure, and has worked right "out of the box". They also have some of the most clearly written documentation I've ever seen.

I've been using Macs since late 1984, I'm an Apple Consultant Network "ACTC - Apple Certified Technical Consultant", and I know my way around the cli pretty well. So don't assume that I'm a newbie who doesn't have a clue about how to set up software. I was hoping that I could try Zimbra in the Open Source version with future plans to use the Network edition for a hosting service I run.

If, as Phoenix notes, I can change the port that Zimbra uses when I'm doing the install, how do I go back in post-install and change the port so I can actually try to get this to work? Want to "sell me" on ZCS? Help me get this working.

the zcs dir and the /opt/zimbra dir are two separate directories.

You need to run the ./install.sh -u from the zcs directory (ie the dir where the install files are located)

I noticed that there was a mac specific installer in the "Installer" directory noted above.

So I ran it and it seems to have deleted everything except the packages. Wich I found by doing spotlight.

./install-mac.sh -u

The "zcz" directory is the disk image that the installer is on.

There is an "install.sh" in the "scripts" folder. That must be it!
