Default backup and forgot to copy permissions

I have a question. I tried upgrading from 4.0.4 to 4.5GA on a RHEL4 system. Before the upgrade I copied the /opt/zimbra folder to another directory. I forgot however to use the -p and the permissions are not correct on the backup.

I also have a backup from 2am this morning where the permissions are correct.

Is there a way to fix the permissions on the one I copied before the upgrade, or should I just use the 2 am backup?

Thanks

Don

You could use the 2am backup but if you need to use ther other backup then just run zmfixperms (search the forum for info). If your upgrade went OK then just backup your system now.

I copied over my 2am backup to /opt/zimbra

then I ran the installer for the same version that was already installed.

But some of the configuration information is missing (like the imap ports, pop ports, http ports). I tried configuring those items

If I configure then, I still have LDAP problem...389 -1

Any help would be greatly appriciated

Thanks

Don

It might have helped me give you a better answer if you'de mentioned that you were intending to rerun an install. I thought you were just asking about which backup to keep.

Tell me exactly what you're trying to achieve and what you've done so far and what's gone wrong.

Phoenix,

I appreciate the quick replies.

I have it working again. Here is what I did.

I copied the 2am backup to /opt/zimbra

I reinstalled 4.0.4

It had errors once again, so I did not save the config information.

I then copied the 2 am backup again to /opt/zimbra and started the mail server. Everything started and I receive and send email.

I don't know if this is the correct way to restore zimbra, but it is working now.

This all occured after I tried the 4.5 upgrade and it failed. I posted that error in another post in these forums. It is the first time I have ever had a error on an upgrade..

Thanks

Don

No problem, I'm glad you got it working again. It's usually a good idea to install the same version again, copy your files back then run an upgrade of the same version but if yours has worked without problems then what the heck do I know?

What was the problem with your upgrade?

Well,

I wasn't sure of the correct way to do the restore.

The upgrade seem to go ok until it got this error -

symbol lookup error

/opt/zimbra/zimbramon/lib/i386-linux-thread-multi/auto/DBI/DBI.so: undefined symbol: Perl_Tstack_sp_ptr

script failed with code 127

then it dumped me out of the install/upgrade.

I wasn't sure how to solve that issue, and my co-workers were soon to be arriving so I decide to try and restore the mail server instead of attempting to fix the error.

It is the first time an upgrade has caused me issues....

Thanks

Don

Hmmm, that looks like a perl error to me and I'm totally lost with that. The only information I can find via google is gibberish to me. Have you made any updates to your system that may have made changes to perl? Unless someone else can help you in the forums my only suggestion would be to file it as a bug, I'm afraid.

Well,

I ran up2date the other day, I will have to look and see if any Perl updates where in there. I might try tonight to upgrade to 4.0.5 and see if the problem shows up on that version. Now that I know I can restore if I have issues.

Thanks again for the help..
