I have been testing 4.0.5 for a few weeks now. Supposedly my manager will be buying a 100 user license today (but I have heard that before). Anyway I need to install and deploy to our production environment (which I am building right now). So I went to download a new trial version and I was not given the option of 4.5. The download link was for 4.0.5. I have read that the Outlook plugin for 2007 will be available for the 4.5 release in a little while and my manager told me to install 4.5 NE.
So how can I install the latest 4.5 with a trial license? I know ots easy to upgrade the license once we purchase one but it seems that everything I have seen in posts about 4.5 is the Open Source version.
Now ... our production environment will consist of a 64 bit machine and a 32 bit machine (not my decision) Will I be able to get both versions on the same license.
FOSS versions of 4.5.0_RC2 are available now, Network versions will be made available when 4.5.0_GA is released. Licensing will not restrict you by OS or system architecture, so you should be fine.
You can't get a copy of the 4.5 NE version, it's not going to be available until the 3rd or 4th week of January. I'd contact sales about the versions you can get and the pricing.
Thanks for letting me know this. I have never performed an upgrade. If we install NE 4.0.5 and then upgrade to 4.5 when it becomes available will it be an easy upgrade? Does it preserver your configurationd and tweaks?
Yes, you can install 4.0.5 NE the just run the install for 4.5 and it updates your current server. If you've made any changes to the zimbra config files directly then they usually get overwritten but it depend what you've done. There's always the obvious - take a backup before you upgrade. With the NE edition you'll now have a shiny new update tool that we OSS users don't have.
