Question Move zcs from Ubuntu6x86 to Ubuntu12LTSx64

I've been digging through the wiki looking for methods to move my server to a new installation with an updated OS. I've read the articles here and here detailing the methods of moving to a new server (64 bit at that). My biggest question is why can't i use my zcs network edition backups as described in method1. Why all the ldap exporting and importing? My backup files should have all my user accounts etc. I'm not copying any files except the actual backup files from my old server. The new install will have 64bit binaries etc. I just want the user accounts and email stored in the backup file. All that information is text. No binaries involved.

Is there a reason I can't simply use my last full backup and import it into my new 64it server running the same zimbra version as my 32bit server?

Yes, there is and it's because you need to dump LDAP an import it into the new server. There is only one Zimbra Certified method of moving your server from 32bit to 64bit and that's the instructions you need to follow.

Buy why is the ldap dump necessary?
Its not necessary when moving from 32bit to 32bit. The backup file is just that, a compressed backup. I can use backup files from a 32bit system on a 64bit system no problem. I don't understand why the data dump is necessary.

    It's because you're moving from 32bit to 64bit.

    See the answer above.

See the first answer. If you don't think it's necessary then feel free to try without it and see how it screws up your system.
