Default Issue when installing ZCS 7.2.0

    Hi,

I am attempting to install ZCS 7.2.0 on a CentOS 5.8 machine.

    A)
After I completed the installation, I ran the following command as zimbra user: zmcontrol status
The results of the command were:
    antispam Stopped
    zmamavisdctl is not running
    antivirus Stopped
    zmamavisdctl is not running
    zmclamdctl is not running
    ldap Running
    logger Running
    mailbox Stopped
    mysql.server is not running.
    zmmailboxdctl is not running.
    mta Stopped
    postfix is not running
    zmsaslauthdctl is not running
    snmp Stopped
    zmswatch is not running.
    spell Stopped
    zmapachectl is not running
    stats Stopped
    zmconfigd Running

    B)
I then ran the following command: [zimbra@mail ~]$ zmcontrol start
    That gave the following results:
    Starting zmconfigd...Done.
    Starting logger...Done.
    Starting mailbox...Done.
    Starting antispam...Done.
    Starting antivirus...Done.
    Starting snmp...Done.
    Starting spell...Done.
    Starting mta...Done.
    Starting stats...Done.
You have new mail in /var/spool/mail/zimbra

    C)
After running the command above. I ran "zmcontrol status" again and got the following results
    antispam Running
    antivirus Running
    ldap Running
    logger Running
    mailbox Stopped
    mysql.server is not running.
    mta Stopped
    postfix is not running
    snmp Running
    spell Running
    stats Stopped
    zmconfigd Running

    D)
I looked on the forum and found the following article: I can not start zimbra service
This was relevant to me because I remember when the installation compled it did have "Port conflict detected: 25 (zimbra-mta)". I don't remember if there were any other port conflicts because I did the
initial installation more than a week ago.

    E)
I followed the instructions for this article and disabled SELinux and disabled the Firewall (iptables).

    F)
I saw that it also said to make sure I did not have postfix installed or started on my machine. I rand the following command (I believe I ran it as Zimbra user): postconf -d | grep mail_version
    It returned the following:
    mail_version = 2.7.8
    milter_macro_v = $mail_name $mail_version
You have new mail in /var/spool/mail/zimbra

    G)
I then became root and ran the following command: yum search *postfix*
    The results were:
postfix.i386 : Postfix Mail Transport Agent
    postfix-pflogsumm.i386 : A Log Summarizer/Analyzer for the Postfix MTA
spamassassin.i386 : Spam filter for email which can be invoked from mail
    : delivery agents.
Warning: No matches found for: postfix-2.7.8.3z

    H)
Question 1: I am not sure if the postfix.i386 package was installed on CentOS 5.8 by default or if it is a package that Zimbra installed. If it was a package that was installed on CentOS 5.8 by default, should I remove it?

    I)
Currently, when I become the zimbra user an run "zmcontrol status", I get the following results:
    antispam Running
    antivirus Running
    ldap Running
    logger Running
    mailbox Stopped
    mysql.server is not running.
    mta Stopped
    postfix is not running
    snmp Running
    spell Running
    stats Stopped
    zmconfigd Running

Question 2: What can I do to get postfix running? This is also why I am not sure if I should remove the postfix.i386 package with Yum - because I am not sure if that is the postfix that Zimbra wants to start

    J)
I believe that the database comes with the Zimbra installer
    Question 3: Am I correct

Question 4: What can I do to get mysql.server running

Thanks in advance to anyone who can give me some assistance.

What you need to do is stop the Zimbra services then see if there's an instance of postfix running, if it is running then disable it from starting at boot then reboot the server. When the server reboots try starting Zimbra and see if all the services ar running, if they are not then check the log files for errors.

    Hi phoenix,

When I ran "yum search postfix" it gave me the following results:
postfix.i386 : Postfix Mail Transport Agent
    postfix-pflogsumm.i386 : A Log Summarizer/Analyzer for the Postfix MTA
spamassassin.i386 : Spam filter for email which can be invoked from mail
    : delivery agents.

However, when I run "ps -ef | grep postfix" on this server it does not return any results. So it does not appear as though postfix is actually running at all on my mail-mirror server.

    Hi glennbtn,

I did get at least one port conflict when doing the initial installation and that was Port conflict detected: 25 (zimbra-mta).

    Hi All,

I started to do a re-install of ZCS.
In the beginning it asked me the following question: Do you want to verify message store database integrity.

I answered yes to this question and it gave me the following output:

    “Starting mysqld...failed.

/opt/zimbra/mysql/bin/mysqlcheck: Got error: 2002: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/opt/zimbra/db/mysql.sock' (2) when trying to connect
    No errors found
    command failed”

I then checked in /opt/zimbra/log/mysql_error.log and it gave me the following results:

Question 1: I would have assumed that the table "mysql.host" would have been created by the installer? I am wondering why it does not exist

Question 2: I think I will remove the postfix.i386 package with Yum and then do a re-install

Question 3: Should I also remove postfix-pflogsumm.i386 with Yum as well?

Question 4: Can I use the installer to perform an "upgrade" to the same version or do I need to wipe the system clean and perform the installation again from scratch? I wouldn't really be upgrading the system as I would be going to the same version. I am just not sure if the installer allows this and I am also not sure how clean that install would be

    Thanks.

    Hi Phoenix,

I made a mistake. Postfix was not already installed on this machine. I forgot that yum search the repositories and not just what is installed on your machine when you do a "yum search".

    Hi again glennbtn,

I just attempted to do a re-install and got the following error message:

The installer showed the following information:
    Port conflict detected: 25 (zimbra-mta)
Port conflicts detected! - Any key to continue

So, only port 25 has a conflict.

    Thanks.

    Hi MrkKev

Are you now doing a fresh install or just re-installing over the as an upgrade. If it's an upgrade there is a chance you will get this message but should be ok once the upgrade is complete. If you doing a fresh install it would seem something else is on port 25. May be yum remove postfix before trying to install again.

    Hi glennbtn,

    A)
I initally wiped out the OS and then did a new install. I got the error message about the conflict with port 25. I tried to do a few re-installs as an upgrade but each time it told me it had a conflict with port 25.

    B)
I just tried to do another re-install as an upgrade and the installer told me that there was a conflict with port 25 detected.

    C)
After the installation had completed, I ran the following command: zmcontrol status
    The results were:
    antispam Running
    antivirus Running
    ldap Running
    logger Running
    mailbox Running
    memcached Running
    mta Stopped
    postfix is not running
    snmp Running
    spell Running
    stats Running
    zmconfigd Running

    D)
I then ran the following command: zmcontrol start
    The results were:
    Starting zmconfigd...Done.
    Starting logger...Done.
    Starting mailbox...Done.
    Starting memcached...Done.
    Starting antispam...Done.
    Starting antivirus...Done.
    Starting snmp...Done.
    Starting spell...Done.
    Starting mta...Done.
    Starting stats...Done.

    E)
I again ran zmcontrol status and still got the following results:
    antispam Running
    antivirus Running
    ldap Running
    logger Running
    mailbox Running
    memcached Running
    mta Stopped
    postfix is not running
    snmp Running
    spell Running
    stats Running
    zmconfigd Running

    F)
I just tried running "yum remove postfix" but it gives me the following messages:
    "No Match for argument: postfix"
"Package(s) postfix available, but not installed."
    "No Packages marked for removal"

    Thanks.
