Default Zimbra 6 to 7 upgrade issues

Hi

I am trying to upgrade from 6.0.7 to 7.1.3 this is the network edition version that does not come with support, it is on Centos 5 32 bit.

After the upgrade the system will not start.

This is a snapshoted esxi system so I reverted and then updated to 6.0.14 which does work. So whilst there is no panic I would still like to do the upgrade.

I am working on a copy, and after the 6.0.14 to 7.1.3 attempt.

zmconrtol start

Host myhost.uk.com
Starting zmconfigd...Done.
Starting logger...Done.
Starting convertd...Failed.
Starting convertd...failed.
Starting mailbox...Done.
Starting antispam...Done.
Starting antivirus...Done.

Starting apache...httpd: Syntax error on line 232 of /opt/zimbra/conf/httpd.conf : Cannot load /opt/zimbra/httpd/modules/libphp5.so into server: /opt/zimbra/http d/modules/libphp5.so: cannot restore segment prot after reloc: Permission denied
failed.
Starting mta...Failed.
postalias: fatal: bad string length 0 < 1: inet_protocols =
postfix failed to start
Starting saslauthd...already running.
Starting stats...Done.

I have read the release notes, and have:

1) recreated the self signed certificated
2) yum installed compat-libstdc++-33.i386 ( As I think this is needed by convertd)
3) Tryed to run /opt/zimbra/libexec/scripts/migrate20100913-Mysql51.pl
which gives:

ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/opt/zimbra/db/mysql.sock' (2)
Tue Dec 20 16:58:28 2011: Error while running '/opt/zimbra/bin/mysql --user=zimbra --password=_mypassword --database=zimbra --batch --skip-column-names'.

Has anyone any ideas?

EDIT: Oh, and before you go running around trying the insane newbie suggestions below...take a look at the upgrade log files and see if there is something mentioned in there that indicates what the source of the problem might be.

I'm not really one to give any really helpful suggestions since I don't have much experience with Zimbra or Linux, but if I were in your shoes, the 1st thing I'd try is to create a new install of CentOS with the same version as your production system. Then install the same Zimbra 6.0.14 on the new server and make sure it can spin up. Then copy over the opt folder to the new server and see if you can spin it up. If so, try the upgrade on that server to rule out any problems with the OS or things that might have changed over time.

If that doesn't work, I'd look at doing the same thing so you get a fresh install of the CentOS and Zimbra that matches your production...but do not copy production data. Just see if you can upgrade the empty 6.0.14 version to 7.1.3. If that fails, you know it isn't the data...but the process somehow.

Starting apache...httpd: Syntax error on line 232 of /opt/zimbra/conf/httpd.conf : Cannot load /opt/zimbra/httpd/modules/libphp5.so into server: /opt/zimbra/http d/modules/libphp5.so: cannot restore segment prot after reloc: Permission denied

is a known error when you have SELinux enabled. Turn off SELinux.

Default SELinux currently set to targeted

Thanks for this I will set it to disabled and try the Zimbra 7 upgrade

I am very pleased that a Zimbra employee has answered this, it encourages me to promote the unsupported Network Edition version.
