    Default Error while trying to install on Ubuntu 10.04

    Hello,

    I am trying to install the Zimbra Network Edition 7.1.x on an Ubuntu 10.04 Linux box and I am experiencing the following error when trying to run the install:

    ERROR: Installation can not proceeed. Please fix your /etc/hosts file
    to contain:

    Where is the ip address of the host,
    is the FULLY QUALIFIED host name, and
    is the (optional) hostname-only portion

    Here is what my /etc/hosts file looks like:

    127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
    184.107.243.42 mail.titanpro.us mail

    # The following lines are desirable for IPv6 capable hosts
    ::1 localhost ip6-localhost ip6-loopback
    fe00::0 ip6-localnet
    ff00::0 ip6-mcastprefix
    ff02::1 ip6-allnodes
    ff02::2 ip6-allrouters

    As far as I am concerned everything looks correct in this file... if you have any suggestions or advice on how to approach this error please let me know. I left a voicemail with my designated Zimbra Rep this morning to get access to Technical Support and I am patiently awaiting his phone call. In the meantime I figured I would use the forums to see if I could get the issue resolved.

    I appreciate your help and assistance in this matter.

    Cheers!

    Are you behind a NAT router? If you are you need to set-up a Split DNS, if your not behind a NAT router then post the output of all the commands in the 'Verify....' section of that article.

    Hello,

    Actually, I am re-attempting this using the Zimbra Wiki article on Split DNS found here: Split DNS - Zimbra :: Wiki

    When I use pico or nano to create the /var/named/db.server.example.com zone file and I go to exit and save the file I get the following error:

    [ Error writing /var/named/db.mail.titanpro.us: No such file or directory ]

    I had this down to a science last February while I was installing on a CentOS server but I am having one problem after another trying to get this up and running on an Ubuntu box. Please let me know if you have any further suggestions or advice concerning this matter.

    Thanks!

    Does the /var/named directory actually exist? You might find it easier to install webmin and make the modifications to the DNS files using that.

    My suggestion would be to use CentOS, why did you ever change from a decent distribution?

    Could you provide me with the commands and instructions to get webmin up and running? You know me, you helped me with a Zimbra install last year... I am a developer not a Sys Admin!!!

    I got it figured out... I have webmin up and running on my Ubuntu box now. Not as hard as I thought it would be... very easy actually!

    Could you show me what I need to fill out on the BIND DNS info? It is a little confusing to setup the DNS records in the interface. If you could walk me through it I would really appreciate it.

    Now with all of that in mind I am receiving the same error that I first posted on this thread. Please advise. Any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Your hosts file is incorrect, it should have the LAN IP of the Zimbra server not the public IP.
