Default RH ES 4 required packages

Well, I took the plunge and purchased RH ES 4. Coming from a Debian distro background, RedHat seems weird. I did use RH many, many years ago. But I have been using debian for at least 6 years now.

The install was very easy. My problem is installing the required programs before installing Zimbra.

I am not finding nptl, compat-libstdcc++-33 or libstdcc++-296 on the system. I have checked into the Redhat Network, registered my computer, updated... all has gone well.

I have marked nptl-devel-2.3.4-2.25 to be installed. I assume this is the correct package. It is marked in my que on Redhat network waiting to be install.... but it doesn't install. If I check for updates from my computer, it says I am up-to-date. The Redhat Network says my computer is checking in and there is one event waiting to install.

How do I get it to actually install????

Also, I can not find a compat-libstdcc++-33 file to install for RH ES 4.

At lastly, do I need to install BOTH compat-libstdcc++-33 AND compat-libstdcc++-296, or just compat-libstdcc++-296 since I have RH ES?

I've been managing Linux computers for 9 years but I feel like a babe in the woods with RH. Now, when others have problems with Debian, I don't get to feel so smug.

For installing I usually use yumex or yum (but then I use CentOS), for example with up2date you need to do:

Code:
up2date -i compat-libstdcc++-33
if you want to find out what package provides then run:
Code:
up2date --whatprovides=[deps]
You can use yum if you find that easier and you'll need nptl & both of the compat libs. That should be the format for those commands but I'm noit a linux expert and there's always up2date --help

Yes, thank you! If I were familiar with that command it would have saved me several hours of searching. It turns out that the only programs I needed to install were fetchmail and nptl-devel. The "compat-*" libs were provided by other packages on the basic RH 4 ES install.

And I have indeed taken the whole plunge. Just purchased a Nokia E62 from Cingular. Now I am trying to set up syncing.

We'll see how it works.
