Default Browser issues

I have installed version 4.0, with machine name fl.local

https://fl.local:7071 gets me to the admin login on Firefox and Safari (although Safari does not seem to want to get to the admin console but that is not my point

On Firefox, http://fl.local gets me to the default Apache page

On Safari http://fl.local works and gets me to the login page

On both browsers http://192.168.1.1 (my IP) gets me to the default Apache page

I could content myself that it works on Safari but there are some display issues.

Can someone explain what is going on ?
Thanks,
Francis

That depends on what the rest of your set-up is like. Do you have a correct /etc/hosts file? Do you have DNS records set-up correctly to point to your LAN IP? This type of issue has been covered lots of times in the forum, did you search?

Of course I searched but I do not see anything that I can use.

I have not set up anything concerning DNS or /etc/hosts.
Working on OSX, I think I remember using /etc/hosts is not so easy because of OSX using lookupd.

Can you direct me to relevant posts explaining why Safari and firefox would not resolve localhost to the same address. In fact, it seems firefox resolves it to 127.0.0.1, which does not work when input directly, even with Safari.
But to what can Safari interpret localhost to access zimbra successfully ?

Thanks for your help,
Francis

You need a correct /etc/hosts file (see the quick start guide) and DNS records (see the post titled DNS in a Nutshell). I know nothing about OSX I'm afraid but I believe you still need the /etc/hosts. The zimbra server name needs to be resolvable via DNS and it needs a LAN IP address not 127.0.0.1, zimbra won't find the server otherwise.

OK, DNS set. (For those interested in OSX, I used DNS Enabler)

Now, https://mydomain.com:7071 gets me to the admin console but http://mydomain.com gets me to the default Apache page.

zmcontrol status show everything running.

Where is zimbra ?

Sorted, I had the web server on in Sharing preferences.
You have to turn it off otherwise you have another server hiding zimbra.
