Default mail from localhost loops back to myself

I am currently having issues with outbound mail. I am getting the error "mail from localhost loops back to myself" in the deferred message queue. I also have the same message in /var/log/zimbra log. I have searched the forums, WIKI, google extensively and found others with this issue but nobody had a solution. I can send mail to local users without a problem, but external mail (hotmail etc...) gets bounced. I have went through the documentation several times but can’t seem to find anything. Is there documentation somewhere I am missing? This is a basic install on top of CentOS. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forums.

Is this the Network Edition or OS version? Do you have valid DNS records set-up? Is your /etc/hosts file set-up correctly?

This particular setup is the open source edition. I have checked the host and its format is as follows

# that require network functionality will fail.
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
67.53.*.* mail9.someplace.com mail9

* edited out

DNS also checks fine, no problem with resolving hostnames and such. Here is the output of dig

[root@mail9 ~]# dig mx someplace.com

; <<>> DiG 9.2.4 <<>> mx someplace.com
;; global options: printcmd

.

Any ideas?

Check you admin UI settings under the MTA tab
Look for the relay host, and change it to localhost.

The MTA relay is already set to localhost in both the global and the server configuration sections.

Are you guys actually using a mail relay. By default we send to localhost so you only should put in a mail relay *if* you have an external server or host that must relay your mail. This is common in ISP cases where you want to send from your ISP's mail relay.

Can you print out the dns, mx, and a sample message for us to look at?

Hi, I am not sure what it is you are asking me to do.

To find the dns for something can you not just to :

Quote:
dig @lcrm.co.uk mx lcrm1.lcrm.co.uk
or something to that effect?

As for a sample , I believe I already gave that in a previous posting in this thread.

If I misunderstand you then please advise further.

Thanks for your support

Costa
