Unhappy Debian, Zimbra 4, deferred mail Problem

I am having an issue with deferred mail on a new test server setup. If the test goes well I will be migrating my corporations email from their current setup to zimbra.

I have gone through all of the forums and I must be missing something.

my setup:

zimbra box running on debian inside of a nat router on network 192.168.x.x
dyndns.org account "example.com" with mx record setup
netgear router with all ports http://wiki.zimbra.com/index.php?title=Ports forwarded to the deb box

etc/hosts file:

Code:
127.0.0.1       localhost.localdomain   localhost       servername
192.168.71.2    example.com  example

# The following lines are desirable for IPv6 capable hosts
::1     ip6-localhost ip6-loopback
fe00::0 ip6-localnet
ff00::0 ip6-mcastprefix
ff02::1 ip6-allnodes
ff02::2 ip6-allrouters
ff02::3 ip6-allhosts
I had errors when going in to the admin console and checking the queue which have been fixed. I can send email to an external domain (example@gmail.com) and I can send email to admin@example.com and it is received by the server and deferred.
If i re-queue the messages:
Code:
Oct 27 05:48:05 localhost zmtomcatmgr[32387]: status OK

when I try to telnet from outside the network to example.com, it resolves to the isp's dsl dns name and will not prompt for login. I can't see this as the issue, as the email GETS to my server, it is just not put in the appropriate mailboxes.

I also ran fixperms as root.

Any suggestions will be a huge help.

If this test is approved, the dsl is going to be upgraded and a static ip assigned. But i have to prove that zimbra is going to be a viable good solution!!!!! Thanks for any help inadvance

Hi tbovingdon,

I also had some weird problems with Debian sarge 3.1 and Zimbra 4.x.x on an installation I made. Some of them were similar to your problems. I was using running kernel 2.6.8-3.. Since I upgraded to testing kernel 2.6.17-2 everything is working ok..

Cheers!

Does fixperms fix the problem for you? Is there anything in the logs, apart from what you've posted? Is this the OS or NE version?

Reading again what you wrote, seems your problem isn't like the problems I had.. "connect to example.com['external_ip']: Connection timed out" Seems like you are sending an email message to an account on example.com.. If they don't have an mx, of course it will not be delivered..

Cheers!

I am unsure of what you mean? who is they? It is delivered to the server just not to the inbox. There are two users tom and admin created.

What happens when you ping example.com from your zimbra host?

Default Update

OK I now have a valid domain name pointing to a static ip. and a reload of the debian zimbra 4 install. I am having the EXACT same problem.

Email can be sent, and received from the server, once its received it gets automatically deferred.

with the error message "connection time out"
