Exclamation How secure is Zimbra on Ubuntu 10.4

    Hello !

I need to know how secure is Ubuntu server with Zimbra installed on it.
Our server is in a data center and it is connected directly to the internet (with one network card).
I am asking because all mail users keep their emails in the server (using imap).

    Thank you !

Define what you mean by 'secure'. Define what you're going to do to make it more secure. Security of your server and your email is your responsibility.

I mean, it is enough with basic ubuntu server install or i have to install some firewall stuff (like ufw) ?
I see that Zimbra heavily modified system so i am wonder if it build firewall rules (iptables) or it is somehow protecting itself.

    Thank you !

You need to do whatever is necessary to protect your server.

Zimbra does not modify your system nor does it do anything to iptables, it only install it's own components. As I mentioned earlier, security on your systems is your responsibility.

Always use firewalls in front of servers with critical data that needs to be protected.

We have a firewall with the necessary ports open and have had no security issues using Ubuntu 10.04

I have installed ufw and now i have to open ports.
I searched on internet for Zimbra ports and i found a lot of variants (with a lot of open ports).
Can you tell me wich are the ports ?

    Thank you !

Go to the wiki (link at the top of this page or use the forums search function) and search for the word 'ports'.
