Newbie to Zimbra, a few questions and problems...

Well all the requirements for setting it up are very confusing,

Its wanting an LDAP Url, BIND DN, Bind password, LDAP filter, LDAP search base, none of which I've ever heard of....



On a side note, when setting up another mail domain name, how can I get thunderbird to auto detect the server settings for the domain? It's able to find the first domain settings just fine, do I need to add it to another config file?

AD works similar to LDAP service, you need a little knowledge of LDAP to fill those.

i think thunderbird reads what the dns says according to the domain part of the email that you are setting up, i dont use automatic mode on that so im not really sure, but if you gonna shutdown exchange for zimbra i wont worry about that, the email server name will not change, even the protocols will probably be the same (pop3,imap), is just the MTA engine that will change (Exchange for Zimbra), in thunderbird you will need probably to autodetect every account again and put the new password and thats it.

Now, having two email servers up, (let say you want to mantain exchange online and have a group of persons migrated to zimbra) you will need to follow some instructions for installing split domain servers (thats what i have) take a look of this first :

Make sure you understand everything or you can mess up your service
